The second week in Australia Zoo was much better than the first week. I was working in the bird section and then native mammals which i absolutely loved. I took care of my favourite, Sky, which is an orphan kangaroo joey and just the sweetest thing. His mum was killed in a car accident and he has his own enclosure with a bed which is like his mums pouch. I also enjoyed working in the koala walk where I could stand by the koalas and let people pat them and answer questions. These were the most enjoyable things I did in the zoo. The people at the zoo are really cool and I made a lot of good friends so it was a bit sad to go but now I am very glad not to be picking up garbage, pooraking or raking leafs ;) The last days I stayed with Sandi, a volunteer like me because my roommate was fired from the zoo because of attitute problems... So i was left all alone with skyhigh rent and Sandi completely saved me. It was great to have company at last. The only bad thing about the Zoo when it rains are the damn mozzies... They had a big fiest on me and those flying devils eat through clothes, horrible things.
My darling cousin Stella and her familiy came and visited the Zoo on my last day and I went home with them and stayed there for few days. I am so lucky to have such caring relatives ;) And now I have been in Byron Bay for 2 days and am having a blast here. I met a welsh girl in the bus, Caroline, and we have become good friends. We walked to the lighthouse and to the Eastest part of the Australian mainland and yesterday we met my friend Sylvie. Sylvie is the girl I met in the airplane on my way to Australia and we met again in Airlie beach and then I got an e-mail from her yesterday morning where she said she was in Byron Bay... it was amazing coincidence that she wrote that e-mail exactly the day i was here. With her we went to a Hari Krishna gathering which was very interesting ;) There we met all the funkiest people in town. Byron Bay contains many modern-hippies, the flower children today and here are many colorful people ;) The rest of the evening we spent listening to live music, didgeridoo and irish bands ;) Magga, Oli, Sigga and Gardar (My irish band): i saw a fantastic irish band called Shannon i think. They were playing accordium (harmonikka), violin, tin whistle, banjo, small guitar, guitar and a singer. Only 4 people, very talanted. Reeeeally good !!!
Tonight I am taking the bus to Newcastle to see my norwegian friend Bente which I havnt seen for a year i think. She came to Australia few weeks ago to study. It will be great seeing you again Bente ;)
