One more adventure of the summer and wow it was amazing. I went to Hellisey, which is a small island with a big gannet population. The weather had been amazing all day but when we got closer to the island it was covered with thick fog but up we went anyway. 50 meter high cliff, partly a rusty chain-ladder and we were hanging midair. An impossible way to go if you are afraid of heights, and I have to admit that I was shivering a bit when I got up. And there were gannets everywhere, flying in the air and on all cliffs. The chicks were very cute and fluffy, in all shapes and sizes and we spent the first evening and night marking gannets and storm petrels. We had to wade through gannet poo that stinks so badly but it was all worth it, Im just thankful to have gotten the chance to get near those incredible birds. The storm petrels were amazing too, we put up mist nets and caught about 60 birds and marked them. They have this amazing sound and their flight is like a mixture of butterflies and bats. Here are pictures from the Great Gannet Adventure :)
